Arrival to Reykjavik
Meet your fellow travelers on an evening out for out for a welcome Icelandic dinner.
Rest of the evening is free.
Golden Circle, Secret Lagoon, Friðheimar Tomato Farm, Gullfoss, Geysir, Þingvellir National Park
Depart Reykjavik after breakfast (8:30 am) and head straight to the Þingvellir National Park which holds historical and geological significance of being the first known parliament in the world. It is also a place of incredible beauty, sitting in the rift valley of the separating North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.
Enjoy a unique lunch inside the tomato greenhouse farm Friðheimar.
Next we get to witness the force of Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most powerful waterfalls. From there, it is only a short drive to see the wonders of the geothermal area of Geysir, the original exploding geyser, and its surrounding steam vents.
We will finish the activities of the day at the Secret Lagoon hot pool in the early evening, which is Iceland’s oldest natural swimming pool. Take time to truly relax and soak in the magic of this wonderful geothermal pool.
After our soak we will go to our accommodation in the secluded fields in the south of Iceland at Hotel VOS. The perfect place to spot the northern lights from right outside your room.
Hotel VOS is also a working farm and prepares locally sourced high quality food from your doorstep.
Tonight you will delight in a 2 course group menu. Make sure to pop your head out from time to time to check if the Northern Lights are glowing yet.
Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach and 2 hour glacier hike
Depart Hotel VOS after breakfast and start our journey to two of the most celebrated waterfalls in the country, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. You can walk behind the former and get close enough to get wet from the latter if you so desire. Make sure to buy some snacks to keep you going until after the glacier hike.
We will then be joined by a second guide at the Sólheimajökull glacier to take a 2 hour glacier hike. This hike is designed for first timers with an average fitness level. You may chose not to join the glacier hike and spend some time in the small glacier lagoon and valley where you can explore great places while you wait for the rest of the group.
Afterwards, we take a walk on the black beach of Reynisfjara and take in this unique scenery (and of course photos).
Late lunch at the quaint Suður-Vík Restaurant in the seaside town of Vík.
After lunch we will continue our drive further east where we’ll soon start to see the spectacular glaciers and Iceland’s highest mountains. Depending on sunlight and time of year we may do a few more picture stops along the way but for now it’s all about getting to the hotel for the night in the chance of seeing the northern lights in the secluded farm guest house of Lilja.
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Black Diamond Beach and 1hr horse ride
Depart in the morning to visit Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon first thing in the morning whilst the sun comes up and watch the giant icebergs float around and wash up on the black sand shores of Diamond Beach, glistening on the sand. We’ll spend our first few hours here taking in the views before starting our journey back west.
Before our next activity of the day we will stop in the historic town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur at one of the few restaurants in the area, Systrakaffi. We continue west so we can hike along the ridges of the gorge with the impossible name, Fjaðrárgljúfur. As we continue back west we will join our friends at Skalakot horse farm to take part in a tranquil 1 hour horse ride in the volcanic fields around their farm in the late afternoon.
We’ll stop a few more times as we retreat back to Reykjavik getting back in time for a late dinner and an a relaxing night.
Alas, our last full day in Iceland has arrived.
Today is all about you! You can spend your day exploring the city and its museums (and maybe some shopping) or visit the infamous Blue Lagoon for a day of pampering! And for the truly adventures you can spend your day snow mobiling and exploring the largest man-made ice tunnel!
It’s up to you but however you decide to spend it be sure it’ll be a magical end to your adventure in Iceland!
Bless Allir! “Bye Everyone” (yes, bless really means bye in Icelandic!)
